Team Abhiyaan is an enthusiastic group of multi-disciplinary students of IIT Madras, committed to building intelligent, robust, precise and safe ground navigation systems. As a competition team of 45 members, we participate in an international robotics competition called IGVC (Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition) held at Oakland University, Michigan, USA. Participants are given a problem statement using which robots have to navigate autonomously through laned obstacles in Auto Nav challenge of IGVC. With the vision of creating autonomous navigation systems to negate human risk, we aim to designing a six-seater golf cart to operate autonomously in closed and restricted environments like institutes, airports and gated communities. Currently Abhiyaan is also working on a project called MACRo (Martian Autonomous Core Sampling Rover) in collaboration with Extra-Terrestrial Manufacturing (ExTeM), which aims to build an autonomous rover capable of collecting core samples from Martian surfaces. The rover will be built to withstand the intense Martian conditions and we intend to drill 1 foot for more in-depth research and analysis, whereas current rovers can only drill 2.75 inches. Our goal is to strive for and progress toward the vision of developing autonomous systems that can help solve many real-world problems and assist humans in their daily activities.
