ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) is part of the global ActionAid International Federation, that operates in 70 countries around the world. We are committed to achieving social justice, gender equality, and the eradication of poverty. AAN partners with both government and non-state actors, including civil society organisations (CSOs), social movements, networks, and allies, to shift power to the people. This approach empowers individuals and communities, especially those who are marginalised or living in poverty, to have more control over the decisions that affect their lives, including having a voice in governance, resource allocation, and policymaking. We work with pressure groups and mobilise communities to collectively demand change and hold decision-makers accountable and to demand for citizens’ rights. These may relate to the right to food, quality education, quality healthcare, women's rights, children's rights, and the right to good governance. Our Areas of Work 1. We empower women and girls to challenge gender-based violence, exclusion, and unequal power dynamics. Our work supports feminist principles, strengthens women’s leadership, and creates safe spaces for women and girls. 2. We work closely with youth movements and activists to address the challenges of poverty, providing platforms for young people to demand accountability and create transformative change. 3. ActionAid Nigeria provides support to vulnerable communities, building their resilience in the face of disasters and supporting their access to essential services. 4. We mobilise citizens to demand accountability from government institutions and challenge systemic inequalities that perpetuate poverty.
