It is only about 2 kilometers away from the Kottawa exit of the southern highway. Base hospital Homagama was donated in 1946 by Mr. Semaneris Appuhamy , a well known philanthropist of the area. Subsequently, on the 26th January 1997, the Homagama Hospital was upgraded to a Base Hospital by the government to meet the health care needs of a rapidly urbanizing area of the Western Province. Hospital is under the western provincial health ministry. The bed strength of the hospital is about 400. And the hospital cater to a population of 400’000. Hospital is staffed with in all the major specialties (Medicine, Surgery, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and Paediatrics) and minor specialties like ophthalmology, dermatology, ENT, radiology, pathology and psychiatry other than its OPD, PCU, Blood bank, ICU, Endoscopy, Blood bank and Endoscopy services.
