The Centre for Business and Commercial Laws was established in 2008 at the National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU) as a 'Centre of Excellence', with the aim of generating awareness and facilitating research in the field of business and commercial laws. Aligned with its primary mission to instill a culture of commercial acumen within the student community at NLIU, CBCL has striven to foster a robust foundation in the field. This has been inculcated through its certificate courses in collaboration with leading law firms in the country which include and are not limited to Khaitan & Co., Saraf and Partners, AZB and Partners and IndusLaw. These courses aim at providing students with practical experience and a conceptual understanding of different topics under the umbrella of commercial laws. CBCL is also actively involved in the dissemination of information and critical analysis in the field of corporate laws through its publication endeavours which deal with a wide range of topics through the CBCL Blog, NLIU Journal of Business Laws and the Corporate Brief, our monthly newsletter. The NLIU-Trilegal Summit on Corporate and Commercial Laws is the flagship event of CBCL and a culmination of the efforts of the Centre towards research and publication in business laws. The Summit is a testament to its long-standing collaboration with Trilegal and involves a paper presentation of 15 papers selected after a rigorous review process by both Trilegal and CBCL. CBCL also undertakes a pro-bono legal consultancy service known as the 'Karobaar Initiative.' Founded on the principles of accessibility and equal resources for all, under this initiative, student advisors provide pro-bono legal drafting services to early stage ventures and start-ups.
