The City of Powder Springs is a thriving city located in Southwest Cobb County and is approximately 8 square miles. First incorporated as Springville on December 29, 1838, the city has undergone several name changes. In the early years, the town was called Springfield, or Gunpowder because of the local natural resources used to make gunpowder. On December 19, 1859, the city became known as Powder Springs.
