Compassionate Inquiry is a trauma-informed approach to psychotherapeutic training. Designed for mental health professionals, medical practitioners, and individuals committed to personal and collective healing, it uses guided self-inquiry to connect people to their internal experience. The approach focuses on uncovering and healing layers of childhood trauma, tension, and repressed feelings that often manifest as mental health struggles, physical illness, and addiction. Pioneered by Dr. Gabor Maté—renowned international speaker and author of In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts and When the Body says No—it cultivates deep self-awareness, helping people explore their inner truth and address self-generated suffering. Its vision is to promote a more nurturing society globally that recognizes the interdependence of all beings and honours the gifts that each one brings. Compassionate Inquiry runs a variety of online and in-person courses developed by naturopathic doctor and yoga master Sat Dharam Kaur in collaboration with Dr. Gabor Maté, which are now accessible in over five languages. These include the comprehensive one-year Professional Training Programme, an introductory Short Course, a community Circles programme, and more specialist trauma-informed training courses. With a rapidly growing community of over 3000 practitioners worldwide, CI is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. It seeks to honour and unite individuals into a global community of compassionate practitioners, fostering positive transformation in both personal and collective relationships. We acknowledge that we work and gather on lands that have been home to many Indigenous peoples around the world, and offer our respect and gratitude to Elders past, present, and future.
