ConnectEast developed and now operates EastLink, the 39km tollway in Melbourne's east and south-east. EastLink connects the Eastern, Monash, Frankston and Peninsula Link freeways. EastLink has two 1.6km tunnels, which protect the environmentally sensitive Mullum Mullum valley above. ConnectEast also operates the 1km un-tolled Ringwood Bypass. EastLink is the quickest and safest freeway in Melbourne, with traffic averaging 250,000 vehicles per day. EastLink features a 24/7 control room and incident response, 480 hectares of landscaping, 4 million native trees, shrubs & plants, 60 wetlands to treat rain-water run-off, the 35km EastLink Trail for cyclists and pedestrians, distinctive public architecture and 12 public artworks. EastLink is a leader in transport sustainability. In 2020, the internationally recognised GRESB Infrastructure Assessment awarded EastLink the top 5 Star sustainability rating for ESG performance for the fifth consecutive year. EastLink was ranked 27th globally out of the 406 infrastructure assets of all types that were assessed by GRESB. In the motorways (maintenance & operations) category, EastLink was ranked second in the world.
