DeGroote Finance & Investment Council (DFIC)

110 employees

The DeGroote Finance & Investment Council ("DFIC") has merged McMaster's largest finance-related clubs: the McMaster Investment Council and the DeGroote Finance Association. DFIC is now the only club focused solely on providing career workshops, learning seminars, networking opportunities, and stock pitches to McMaster students. In 2022 DFIC received $100,000 from Fidelity Canada to establish the DSB-Fidelity Canada Students Investment Fund, allowing our students to manage real capital. DFIC hosts an array of events including our Annual Bay Street Mixer, Women in Finance Summit, and Future of Finance Conference - which features our hackathon, "Hack the Market". Additionally, we have a program aimed at supporting women from racialized groups, STEM, and lower socioeconomic backgrounds called the "Women in Finance Accelerator Program". DFIC also has a Quant Group, which is composed of only STEM students who actively work to develop quantitative investment strategies. The team curates some of the best STEM talent at McMaster University, often entering careers in Software Engineering or Quantitative Finance. We are one of the few student groups in North America that offers this number of opportunities and have made significant progress in the last few years!
