Durbeen is a non-profit education company that is striving to raise the standard of education in Pakistan's government schools by staffing them with professionally qualified teacher graduates of reformed Government Colleges of Teacher Education. Durbeen’s premise has been set in linking teacher selection and quality teacher education with school reform. For this purpose, Durbeen has partnered with the Government of Sindh to take over the management of the Government Elementary College of Education, Hussainabad, where it is offering a 4-year undergraduate degree program to prepare teachers to teach in Grades 1-8 in government schools. Durbeen's core mission is to transform teaching into a highly sought-after and rigorous profession in Pakistan. Being the central link, Durbeen has formed an alliance of global excellence in education with a long-established local institute that had lost the glory of its setup in the 1950s. Durbeen is rebranding and reshaping a state-owned institute that will become the leading teacher education college in Pakistan by focusing on curriculum, faculty and students. These will be core pillars of all Durbeen-managed government schools, where graduating teachers from this college will be placed to practice. Durbeen is more than a force set out to develop and deploy better teachers in the public sector – it’s strive is to revive the great honor, respect and value of the teaching profession.
