Toitū te marae o Tāne, toitū te marae o Tangaroa, toitū te iwi – Protect and strengthen the realms of the land and sea, and they will protect and strengthen the people. Environment Canterbury is the trading name for Canterbury Regional Council, the local government body for the Waitaha/Canterbury region of New Zealand. As a regional council we are responsible for managing Waitaha/Canterbury’s natural resources – the air, soil, water and how land use affects the environment. We do this through: • regional planning, consenting and compliance to manage land use and water quality, soil, air, and the coastal environment • hazard management and flood protection • biodiversity and pest management • public transport services • harbour navigation and safety, and marine pollution response • regional parks • civil defence • environmental monitoring and reporting. Our vision and purpose is: Taking action together to shape a thriving and resilient Waitaha/Canterbury, now and for future generations. We can only be successful in achieving progress if we work closely with mana whenua, central and other local government agencies, businesses, industry sectors and community and volunteer groups to manage natural resources. Environment Canterbury’s official Linkedin page must not be used for electioneering purposes. Any post - positive or negative - made by any individual specifically relating to their own - or someone else's - nomination, intention to run for Council or election campaign, will be removed immediately.
