The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Tasmania was established as an independent statutory authority under the Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994 (EMPCA) on 1 July 2008. Our purpose is to protect and enhance the quality of the Tasmanian environment in balance with economic and social values, and the needs of future generations. Our goals are clean air, clean water, clean land, healthy noise environment, sustainable development, and to remain informed of contemporary climate science to inform assessments and regulation.
