The Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) is the national regulator on the environment in Malta, which aims to safeguard the environment for a sustainable quality of life. The authority was established in 2016 under the Environment Protection Act (consolidated as Chapter 549 of the Laws of Malta) as a response to the growing need for a comprehensive regulatory framework that would address environmental concerns and promote sustainable development. Today, ERA is the leading authority in environmental legislation, advising government on environmental policy and ensuring its implementation through effective coordination and enforcement on many matters. Works may, therefore, be split into three categories; those which relate to permitting and assessment, those related to the study of our natural environments and their subsequent conservation and improvement through direct actions and the drafting of policy, and those related to compliance and enforcement. ERA’s commitment remains unwavering: to safeguard Malta’s natural heritage, promote sustainable practices and foster environmental stewardship for the benefit of present and future generations. Connect with ERA Malta to stay informed, engaged and involved in shaping our environmental future.
