Under the leadership of Acting District Attorney Mike Keane, our office is responsible for the just prosecution of nearly every crime under state law committed within Erie County, New York. The work performed by this office is mandated by the Constitution and laws of the State of New York. Our office is comprised of approximately Assistant District Attorneys and approximately 100 additional employees, including confidential criminal investigators, paralegals, victim advocates and other support staff. The District Attorney’s Office is committed to fairly prosecuting the accused and obtaining justice for the victims. In addition to annually litigating approximately 25,000 cases in local, county, state and specialty courts, our prosecutors present cases before the Grand Jury and handle all post-conviction litigation in state and federal appellate courts. The Erie County District Attorney's Office provides legal advice and investigative support to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies. Throughout the criminal justice process, our Assistant District Attorneys work alongside our partners in law enforcement to investigate crimes, determine whether charges should be filed and prosecute the cases in court.
