One-third of all food produced in South Africa is dumped in landfill, while more than 30 million people are food insecure. Established in 2009 to address widespread hunger in South Africa, FoodForward SA recovers edible surplus food from the food supply chain - farmers, manufacturers, retailers and the hospitality sector - and distributes it to vetted beneficiary organisations, thus, connecting a world of excess to a world of need. In partnership with various stakeholders, we implement an ecosystem that uses surplus food as a catalyst for social change, transforming a food waste problem into a food security solution. Our innovative model promotes 11 of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
