The Norwegian Defence staff, is the strategic level of the Norwegian Armed Forces and is in crisis management and governance context the military strategic level. They are tasked with providing the Chief Head of Defence with the necessary help in the operations and development of the Norwegian Armed Forces. The personnel in the general staff do not represent any specific defense branch. The functions of the staff can be divided into three functional areas: - Decision support which involves creating the best possible decision-making basis for current actions. - Implementation of measures that involve realizing decisions taken by politicians and defense leadership." - "Control support", meaning following up on measures implemented to ensure that the purpose and objectives are achieved.
