Greenfield Community Energy and Technology (GCET) is a Municipal Light Plant owned by the City of Greenfield. A Municipal Light Plant, or MLP, is a special public entity created under Massachusetts General Law 164 to provide telecommunications, electric or gas services to its local community. GCET provides broadband speed Internet services and VOIP phone services to both residents and businesses in Greenfield, as well as providing Internet for the municipality. GCET is a full-service organization and is directly responsible for the installation and maintenance of the network. In addition, all network operations and internet services are provided to its customers from its dedicated work force. GCET reports to its own Board of Commissioners and operates independently from the rest of the municipality. Beyond its daily operations, GCET also acts as a consultant to other communities looking to develop municipal broadband.
