Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS)

163 employees

The Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (HIPS) was established in 2009 as a joint venture of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) and Saarland University. Located on the Saarbrücken campus, we are Germany’s first research institute dedicated explicitly to pharmaceutical research, driving innovative solutions to combat infectious diseases. Our work focuses on the development of novel anti-infectives and their optimization for clinical application – with a clear translational approach. We integrate cutting-edge strategies in synthetic and natural product-based drug discovery with advanced methods in bioinformatics and drug delivery. Our mission: to create new therapies and strategies to tackle antibiotic resistance and other global challenges in infectious diseases. Supported by an interdisciplinary and international team, we are advancing research for a healthier future.
