Hiroshima University was founded in 1949. It has 11 faculties and 12 Graduate Schools with around 16,000 students and 3,300 staff members. Its main campus is in the Kagamiyama District of Higashi-Hiroshima City, some 35 kilometers to the east of Hiroshima City, and is among the largest campuses in Japan.
