Founded in 2005 with the aim of bridging the gap between the professional and university lives, METU Local Committee is the first local committee of International Association of Civil Engineering Students in Ankara, which has more than 100 local committees in more than 40 countries. It is a nonprofit student organization which is run by students of METU Civil Engineering Department for all civil engineering students everywhere. In addition to its international nature METU LC also acts as a career based student organization domestically organizing its traditional career days every march, holding workshops, providing software courses and publishing KariyerCE magazine annually. Besides its career oriented event METU LC believes that an engineer has to be more than a calculator or an academic but a versatile individual. To this end we organize charity sales for schools that are in need, regular donations of books and school supplies to them, conferences with foundations like Köprü and İlkYar, projects like "Bir Tuğla Bir Kitap (One Brick One Book)" regular purchasing and planting of sapplings in METU's forestation efforts and seminars on topics that are often left out in class curriculums; work health and safety, ethics in engineering, women in engineering.
