The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. It sets standards for drugs in the country, ensuring their quality, safety, and efficacy to promote public health in India and beyond. IPC regularly updates these standards in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP), the official book of drug standards in India, and establishes IP Reference Standards (IPRS) and impurities for quality control analysis. It also updates the National Formulary of India (NFI) to guide healthcare professionals on rational medication practices. Additionally, IPC oversees the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI) for drug safety monitoring and the Materiovigilance Programme of India (MvPI) for medical device safety.
