General Information The department of Chemistry Malaysia consists of a network of laboratories around the country that provides analysis, investigations and scientific consultancy to government agencies. It is aimed to support enforcement of the law along with the implementation of programmes that relate to the safety of water, food, the environment and industrial products to protect and advance public health and safety to the larger public, and protect consumers' interest as well as health and safety in the work place. The department also provides technical and consultancy services in the evaluation of product specification for government contracts to ensure value for money on government expenditure; customs tariff classification of goods for import/export for purposes of tax collection and ensure government revenue, and assessment of chemical laboratories for compliance to ISO Standard. Food and some industrial products for export are also analysed to ensure compliance to international quality and safety standards and thereby ensuring their competitiveness in the global market.
