New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (NZTR) is the governing body for Thoroughbred horse racing in New Zealand. It oversees and regulates the sport, ensuring that races are conducted fairly and in accordance with the rules and regulations while supplying the thoroughbred product for wagering and sporting customers. Racing is a significant contributor to the New Zealand economy, accounting for a remarkable $1.6 billion (0.9% of GDP) and directly employing around 10,000 individuals. NZTR is an independent organisation responsible for the administration, promotion, and development of Thoroughbred racing in New Zealand. It works in collaboration with various race clubs throughout the country and is governed by a Board of seven Directors who are responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, decision-making, and overall management of NZTR.
