The North Charleston Police Department is proud to serve in the State’s 3rd largest city. The Police Department’s job is more than answering calls after a crime has occurred. Effective policing is working with the community to prevent crime and solve community problems. Citizen participation and residents taking ownership in neighborhood issues are key characteristics of safe and vital communities. Today, the department employs over 340 sworn officers and 85 civilian employees who proudly serve a growing population of approximately 90,000 that swells to over 200,000 during the daytime hours accommodating workers, visitors, tourists and shoppers. The North Charleston Police Department’s mission is to provide professional public safety services while working in partnership with the citizens of North Charleston to identify, prevent and solve the problems of crime, social disorder and neighborhood decay, thereby improving the quality of life in our community.
