People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India, founded in 2000, has more than 2 million members and supporters and is the best-known animal rights organization in the country. PETA India focuses much of our attention on the four areas in which the most significant numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the most extended periods: in laboratories, in the food industry, in the clothing trade, and the entertainment industry. We also work on various other issues, including cruelty in the pet trade, alleviating the suffering of animals used for work, and standing up for animals labelled as “pests.” PETA India works through various means to save and improve animals’ lives. The departments at PETA India span the following subject areas: policy advocacy, vegan food advocacy, research and science, campaigns, corporate affairs, legal, public relations, celebrity outreach, vegan fashion advocacy, cruelty investigations, cruelty response, emergency response, animal rescue, veterinary, audio/visual, social media/marketing, youth outreach, fundraising, finance, human resources, and administrative.
