St. Elizabeth Cancer Institute in Bratislava boasts a rich 285-year history. Initially, it served the seriously ill, the abandoned, and the poor. After the Second World War, it transformed from a workplace focused on the diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases into an Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment. Following the restitution of church property on January 10, 1996, it emerged as a modern, highly specialized non-state medical facility. Today, it stands as one of the leading oncological facilities in Slovakia, providing top-notch oncological, preventive, dental, and faculty care to patients from across Slovakia and abroad. Holding the ISO 9001 certificate, the institute ensures health care standards at the international level. Furthermore, the institute's laboratories are accredited for the entire EU. The institute actively engages in biomedical research to acquire and verify new medical knowledge and undertakes grant projects, including innovative treatments utilizing stem cells. It also serves as a vital centre for the postgraduate education of medical students in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University (LF UK) and the Slovak Medical University (SZU.
