The current Customs Organization has its origins in the British period, when the first Board of Revenue was established in 1786 at Calcutta, followed by the formation of a Board of Trade in 1808. A uniform Tariff Act was introduced in 1859 all over India. The first major legislation was The Sea Customs Act, 1878. Pakistan Customs was part of Her Majesty’s Indian Customs, and was separated when Pakistan gained independence in 1947.
