Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department

144 employees

The third largest water utility department in the State of Florida, the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department (PBCWUD) provides drinking water, wastewater collection and reclaimed water services to nearly 635,000 residents in the central and south-central unincorporated areas of Palm Beach County as well as the western communities of Belle Glade, South Bay and Pahokee. In addition to five water treatment plants, the Southern Region Water Reclamation Facility and wastewater treatment plants in Belle Glade and Pahokee, we also operate Wakodahatchee Wetlands, which was named the Best Park in the State of Florida by Money Magazine in 2018. Wakodahatchee, along with Green Cay Wetlands, were created, built and now maintained by the utility with the intention of restoring wildlife habitat, while adding up to one million gallons per day of reclaimed water back into the water cycle. This legacy is being further with the utility's innovated "Green Cay Phase II/ RECAP" project, set to open in late 2026. PBCWUD is using state-of-the-art technology to develop a new purified water source without additional withdrawals from the underground aquifer. Following an advanced purification process, clean water will flow into lakes at "Green Cay Park" where it can recharge groundwater supplies. Reclaimed Education & Center for Advanced Water Purification (RECAP) will feature advanced water purification to potable drinking water standards. The Advanced Water Purification Facility will be located on the campus of PBCWUD's Southern Region Water Reclamation Facility, and will also include educational exhibits and interactive immersive experiences, where students and visitors can learn more about the importance of water resources locally, and across the state. The educational center will be open in late 2026 to school and visitor groups. In 2021, PBCWUD became the first utility in North America to be certified #ISO5001 in #Assetmanagement by ISO.
