The PEI Coalition for Women's Leadership (prev. the PEI Coalition for Women in Government) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing women's leadership in the political, civic and democratic life on PEI. We work to address the underrepresentation of diverse voices in decision-making spaces with the belief that a variety of lived experiences at those tables results in more equitable policies and outcomes for all. To accomplish our mandate, the Coalition addresses systemic and structural barriers to civic participation by all genders and empowers people with information, tools and strategies to increase their participation. Put simply, we act in three different ways: 1. Providing skill-building and networking opportunities to build the confidence and know-how to successfully pursue a position of leadership; 2. Research and analyze existing barriers to leadership; 3. Develop recommendations to remove systemic barriers and advocate to different levels of government and other stakeholders as required. The Coalition is committed to applying non-partisan, evidence-informed, intersectional feminist principles and processes in its work. We support rights and empowerment of all women, while understanding how women's overlapping identities- including race, class, ethnicity, religion, gender identity and sexual orientation- impact the way they experience oppression and discrimination.
