Owned by Plínio Pizzato family, is located at the Vale dos Vinhedos, southern Brazil. Plínio is the grandson of Antonio Pizzato, an Italian immigrant who came to Bento Gonçalves in 1875 from the Veneto region of Italy and brought with him the proud winegrowing tradition. He was a pioneer on on using VSP (Vertical Shoot Positioning) trellising in Serra Gaúcha by the mid- 1980s for Merlot, Chardonnay, Tannat and Egiodola grapes. With a solid experience in grape-growing, the family established the winery in 1999 with the objective ofmaking world class estate grown and bottled wines from their own vineyards. Since its first ever made wine, a very successful Merlot that helped to fix this red varietal as the one with the best results in Brazil, the company is dedicated to make exclusively premium fine wines under its 3 brands, PIZZATO, FAUSTO and ALLUMÉ. The family grows 57 hectares (140 acres) of prime vineyards located in two viticultural areas, both within the so-called Serra Gaúcha region: * Vale dos Vinhedos, Bento Gonçalves, the first geographical indication (GI) ever in Brazil, now a D.O. (Santa Lucia vineyard, PIZZATO brand) * Doutor Fausto de Castro, Dois Lajeados (Dr Fausto vineyard, FAUSTO brand). The wines from both areas, Vale dos Vinhedos and Doutor Fausto (also from other regions - ALLUMÉ brand), are 100% made under Pizzato family winegrowers management.
