Primary Care Health Services, Inc.'s mission is to provide comprehensive primary and preventative healthcare services to the medically underserved populations in Allegheny County regardless of their ability to pay. The first medical center was set up in Homewood in 1968 and is now our headquarters. It was renamed in honor of Mrs. Alma Illery, a pioneer and civic leader who promoted integration in local hospitals and supported various humanitarian efforts. We have nine Community Health Centers strategically located in medically underserved (or a health professional shortage) areas around Pittsburgh that provide a full array of primary care services. To help patients pay for these programs we offer a Sliding Fee Program which will reduce the cost of service based upon household income and family size. Some of the social service programs we offer include Prepared Childbirth, Smoking Cessation, Utility Assistance, Language Line Services, Outreach & Social Work Intervention, and Health Care for the Homeless. We also run the Wilkinsburg Family Support Center which equips families with tools and support they need to grow healthier and happier. The centers had 14,033 patient visits in 2015, with more than 4,097 coming through the Alma Illery Homewood site. To meet the needs of our patients our staff currently includes physicians, ob-gyn, outreach workers, pharmacists, behavioral health therapists, lab techs, medical records professionals, accountants, and social services staff.
