RSVP, formerly known as the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, engages adults 55 and older in meaningful volunteer work that strengthens our community, creates a sense of belonging for each volunteer, and changes with the needs of those we serve. RSVP is an outreach service of Council of Churches of the Ozarks and has been serving the community since 1974. Volunteers serve in four key programs designed to increase childhood literacy and school readiness, end hunger, promote nutrition, and dissolve senior isolation. 1. Pre-K Pals program engages pre-school age children in fun ways to help develop their social and emotional skills. Volunteers conduct short, pre-planned activities that promote positive social interaction. 2. Homebound Shoppers assist seniors 60 and older to remain independent and living in their own home by grocery shopping and providing social support during each visit. 3. Reading Buddies ignites the love of literacy in students in K-3rd grade through reading and relationship. Volunteers matched with students encourage struggling readers in short 30 minute sessions designed to improve literacy and reading confidence. 4. Crosslines Pantry assist the local food pantry in providing food and hygiene items to those in need. Volunteers serve as greeters, registration, in stocking shelves, and more.
