Second Harvest Food Bank was incorporated in 1983 to alleviate hunger in East Central Indiana and is the region’s largest hunger-relief organization serving over 100 pantries and meal programs in Blackford, Delaware, Grant, Henry, Jay, Madison, Randolph and Wabash Counties. With a vision to see people in East Central Indiana free from hunger and self-sufficient, Second Harvest’s mission is to provide help for today by feeding the hungry and hope for tomorrow by addressing the causes of food insecurity while empowering people toward self-sufficiency. Second Harvest distributes millions of pounds of food annually through its agency-partner program, child hunger programs, and Tailgate Program that seek to provide help for today for 70,150 hungry Hoosiers, including more than 20,000 children and over 15,000 seniors. In providing hope for tomorrow, Second Harvest builds relationships with families and schools through the School Pantry Program and establishes support networks around individuals working toward self-sufficiency through the Poverty Alleviation Program.
