Well-known for his handloom ensembles, vintage-inspired embroideries and research driven designs, the famous designer, Shravan Kummar is known for his extravagance in the fashion industry. Apart from his clothing, he has expanded the company’s horizons into accessories, jewellery inspired from bygone era and event management. Born and brought up in Hyderabad, India, raised with traditional values and ethics, he makes sure to imbibe the same into his daily work practices. In the year 1996, Shravan designed his first line of garments with ‘Pochampally’ fabric which included separates and cardigans and later worked with Ikat and Narayanpet which are still his favourite handlooms to work with. He is one of the Indian fashion designers to be selected as a NIXON DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER to Cornell University in New York where he had presented about our Indian Handlooms and textiles. He is one of the designers who had been working with and supporting many weaver's communities across India. He has been awarded 'The certificate of Excellence' from "Council for industrial & Trade Development India" addressing his brand, Shravan Studio for expertise in transferring the true essence of Indian tradition and creating new trends and designs in garments. Mr. Kummar looks at the Quintessential fashion industry to accomplish the mission of Social and Environmental Commitment to empower poor families by generating employment opportunities. In an effort to meet this objective, he has taken up an initiative to promote handicrafts and workmanship from rural India-paying tribute to weavers through ‘AN ODE TO WEAVES AND WEAVERS’, an annual show which showcases over a 100 weaves from the remotest locations of India every year. These are woven at a non-government organisation called the ‘Society of Aalayam’ that Mr. Kumar personally chairs. ‘Aalayam’ not only succeeds in restoring various weaves that are losing their significance, but also is dedicated to improving the lives of weavers.
