The Experimental Station for the Food Preserving Industry (SSICA) is a Research Foundation, whose operates on the national territory through its headquarter in Parma and the local unit in Angri (SA). Founded in 1922 with the mission of providing scientific and technological support to the Italian food industry, the institute has been carrying out for over a century activities of experimental development, consultancy, transfer of results, technological training and dissemination with the aim of providing answers to the general problems concerning the processing activity, intervening throughout the production chain of agri-food to improve quality and safety standards. Our specialized areas of activity divided by product sectors and cross-sectoral and multidisciplinary topics include: Animal Preserves, Vegetable Preserves, Sea and Fish Preserves, Sustainability and Enhancement (Environment and Packaging), Microbiology, Technological Development, Chemical Safety, Metrology, Accreditation and Quality System, Labelling, Marketing and Consumer Science. SSICA has about 100 employees, among researchers and administrative staff and is supporting more than 3600 companies of the national preserving food industry, developing research projects also at European level.
