Founded in 1886 by Elizabeth Wordsworth, St Hugh’s is now one of the university's largest colleges, with nearly 1000 students. The College was first established to offer an affordable Oxford education to women. Many of our alumnae have gone on to be trailblazers in their respective fields (Emily Davidson, Barbara Castle, Theresa May, and Amal Clooney, just to name a few). Today, the College still retains a strong sense of this radical tradition. We know the importance of opening doors to all who could do well at Oxford. Since our centenary in 1986, St Hugh’s has welcomed men and women from any country and every background.
