The Press is the largest daily newspaper in the South Island and is part of the Fairfax media group. The newspaper was founded on 25 May 1861 and has been providing Cantabrians with their daily dose of news ever since. Moving with the times, The Press introduced its online offering in 1995 - press.co.nz. The website is updated throughout the day with the latest news, views, photos, videos, quizzes and more. It has now become the go to site for anyone looking for the most up to date news on the Canterbury region and was awarded 'Best online breaking news coverage' at the Canon Media Awards in both 2011 and 2012. In addition to the daily newspaper, The Press also distributes a number of other publications from community newspapers such as the Christchurch Mail, Northern Outlook, Mid Canterbury Herald and Central Canterbury news, to the glossy monthly magazine Avenues.
