The Town of Telluride is located in the beautiful San Miguel Valley in southwest Colorado at an elevation of 8,750 feet, surrounded by the San Juan Mountains. A former Victorian mining town in Colorado's Rocky Mountains, Telluride is set in a box canyon amid forested peaks at the base of a popular ski-and-golf resort. It is a National Historic Landmark District and an all-season resort town, with world class skiing in the winter and world class music festivals in the summer. The Town's historic district houses landmarks like the Sheridan Opera House, a performing-arts venue originally built in 1913, and the Telluride Historical Museum, which showcases local history in a converted hospital built in 1986. Telluride's population is 2,400 but swells with tourists for ski season and festivals throughout the year. The Town of Telluride is a Colorado Home Rule Municipality
