Our Background The Union of Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS) was registered under trade unions act (Cap.233) in August 1959 to represent civil servants of all ranks. It strongly advocated for democracy and provided a channel for effective participation, communication and collective barging process it successfully negotiated for decent salaries for its members and ensured it resolved all trade disputes amicably through the negotiating procedures as laid down from time to time. It was affiliated to Public Services International (PSI) which is a global Trade Union representing over twenty million workers in the public sector. It has formulated polices which has brought strong mutual development to UKCS in terms of Trade Union matters. Our mandate and objectives are to: Ensure complete organization of workers within civil the service in Kenya Promote, improve and protect the welfare of members Foster unity and nurture a culture of solidarity amongst all members Promote professional development of union leaders and entire membership Ensure safe and healthy work places Keep enlightened membership and union leadership Increase participation of women, youth and workers with special needs in union activities, including leadership Achieve financial sustainability Recover all UKCS assets that were illegally acquired by some individuals and Foster collaboration and networking with government, local trade unions, private sector, parliamentarians and regional and international union, federations/confederations for development and implementation of supportive labor market policies and legislation.
