Universitas Dr. Soetomo - Unitomo

"Where education is for all" Dr. Soetomo University is also known locally in Indonesia as 'Unitomo.' Brief Background Unitomo's activities cannot be separated from the spirit and the struggle of Dr. Soetomo, the pioneering Indonesian independence figure, who in 1908 founded the Budi Utomo. This historically important organisation was developed with a focus on education to enhance the lives and dignity of the people of Indonesia, who were at the time living under colonial rule. Although Unitomo is known as a top campus, with a reasonable quality education - as demonstrated by its academic achievements so far - since it was established in 1981, it has always held firm to the commitment to provide greater educational opportunities for all people and all levels of society, in order for them to benefit from an appropriate education at an affordable cost in accordance with the university motto of "where the education is for all". Under the auspices of Unitomo foundation known as, the Primary Education Scholars Foundation (YPCU - Yayasan Pendidikan Cendekia Utama), nearly 40,000 alumni have passed through the Unitomo campus. A number of alumni have gone on to live and work throughout Indonesia, and even study and work overseas. More than a few alumni now occupy important positions in various government departments and private sector companies, thus further strengthening the Unitomo alumni network.
