The University of Antananarivo (Université d'Antananarivo) is the primary public university of Madagascar, located in the capital Antananarivo. It was founded in 1955 as the Institute for Advanced Studies in Antananarivo, and was renamed the University of Madagascar in 1961. It later opened five more branches in Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Toamasina, Toliara, and Mahajanga. The university has over 50,000 students and offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of fields, including business, engineering, the arts, and the humanities
