Vast is an Australian renewable energy technology company leveraging next generation concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) systems to decarbonise electricity, transport and industry. Vast’s CSP v3.0 approach to CSP utilises a proprietary, modular sodium loop to efficiently capture, store, and convert solar heat to deliver utility-scale electricity and industrial heat and to unlock the production of green fuels. The company was established in 2009 to develop and commercialise its CSP technology, which can be deployed alongside complementary technologies such as solar PV and wind (cheap but, by their nature, intermittent sources of power), to deliver continuous electricity, heat and energy storage solutions to industries and communities. Vast is currently developing the Port Augusta Green Hub in South Australia with two pioneering projects leveraging Vast’s technology: VS1, Australia’s first utility-scale CSP project, and SM1, a first-of-its-kind green fuel refinery. Vast is also developing a global pipeline of future CSP and green fuels projects across Australia, the US, Latin American and the Middle East.
