The origin of the school dates back to 1975, when its founder, Makoto Sunoda, started a cram school for elementary and junior high school students in Asagaya, Suginami Ward. In 2001, the school ranked first in the number of students accepted into the affiliated high schools of Waseda and Keio Universities. This position has been maintained as of 2024, with 1,547 students passing the entrance exams that year (out of approximately 1,520 available spots), making it the top-ranking school in Japan for 23 consecutive years. Additionally, 107 students were accepted into Kaisei High School in the same year, securing the top spot nationally for 17 consecutive years.
